The Impacts Of EFL Portfolios On Students Writing Skills And Their Perception Towards Learner Autonomy
The improvement of writing skills is commonly believed to rely much on students’ time and effort to practice as a long process. However, in most EFL contexts including Vietnam, students, especially young learners, usually do not have sufficient chance to work on their writing skills. This kind of productive skills is considered to be very tough for students to master thoroughly without learner autonomy which has been noticeably proved to be one of the key factors promoting students’ learning by many educational researchers. In the meantime, portfolios have been increasingly studied by many international and local intellectuals as a preferred teaching, learning and formative assessment tool in various contexts for more than three decades. Therefore, the current study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that whether the application of writing portfolios can potentially facilitate students’ learner autonomy and their writing skills in its specific context. The literature review in autonomous learning enhancement is varied.
