Technology for Engineering & Applied Sciences is aimed at preparing students who intend to get a job in technology. It presents them with English from a wide variety of technological fields and situations, develops their communication skills, and provides them with background in major technological concepts. This top part of the page contains facts, statistics, and quotes. These are optional extras and can be used to add variety and interest to your lessons, or provide additional material for strong students who are ‘fast finishers’. Ways of exploitation include asking whether your students are surprised by the facts and statistics, or whether they agree, disagree, or can identify with the quotes. It also contains Gadget box: interesting, often quirky, technological innovations related to the unit topic. Each Gad get box has an associated question, and allows you to take time out from the flow of the lesson in order to promote a more open-ended discussion. There are also definitions for difficult words or phrases which are important to understand a text which appear son the same page. (Words or phrases in the text are highlighted in bold.)
