    Applying Semantic Maps In The Pre-Reading Stage To Enhance EFL High School Students' Reading Comprehension
    One of the key elements influencing reading comprehension success has been identified as the pre-reading stage. It is why the purpose of this study is to investigate how applying semantic maps in the pre-reading stage affects the reading proficiency of EFL high school students. This study was conducted at Nam Dan 2 High School in Nam Dan District, Nghe An Province, with 41 students in 10th grade that followed the English program at the high school. In this classroom action research, the researcher employed qualitative data to elucidate the shift in students' behavior during the strategy's implementation and quantitative data to see improvements in reading comprehension among the students. Both the students' reading comprehension and their attitude during reading class have increased positively, according to the results of the exam given at the end of the cycle and the analysis of the field notes and questionaire. By the end of cycle II, the scores of students’ reading test increase significantly. This improvement was mostly impacted by the brainstorming and classification phases of the semantic mapping technique. During this stage, students draw on their past knowledge and develop their ability to see connections between concepts and organize them into groups. As a result, the students' understanding of the text has improved. The findings of the study also indicated that the students were more motivated, enthusiastic, and involved in the learning process, with increased excitement and engagement.
