Improving Efl 1st Graders’ English Vocabulary Through Storytelling
This study explores the effectiveness of storytelling as a pedagogical tool for enhancing English vocabulary acquisition among first-grade students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Conducted over a six-week period in Hoang Quan IQ Center with 30 1st graders, the research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative assessments and qualitative observations to evaluate the vocabulary development of the participants. The intervention involved integrating carefully selected and age-appropriate stories into the regular curriculum, supplemented with interactive activities and visual aids to reinforce new words. Preand post-intervention tests revealed a significant improvement in the students' vocabulary retention and usage. Additionally, classroom observations and student feedback highlighted increased engagement and enthusiasm for learning English. The findings suggest that storytelling not only enhances vocabulary acquisition but also fosters a positive attitude towards language learning among young EFL learners. The study concludes with recommendations for educators on implementing storytelling techniques in EFL classrooms to improve language outcomes.
