Using Informal Cooperative Learning To Improve Secondary School Students' Writing Skills
Informal Cooperative Learning has been applied in teaching and learning English recently in secondary schools in Vietnam; nevertheless, the lack of professional instructions makes it difficult for both the teachers of English and the students to apply. The aim of study was, therefore, to investigate the real situation of using informal cooperative learning to improve writing accuracy for the 9th grade students at Nghi Thuan secondary school in Nghi Loc district and to give out some appropriate suggestions for successful cooperative learning lessons. The methods for empirical investigation in the study includes a general test, a pre-test, a post-test and the treatment. After students attended pilot teaching class, there was an obvious interest in learning English. The participants not only improved their English writing skills but also overcame some problems resulted from their personal characteristics. The researcher proposed some implications in terms of issues related to informal cooperative learning and informal cooperative activities with the hope that they will contribute to the teaching of English in the EFL context.
