Using Kahoot To Improve English Vocabulary Acquisition For High School Students​

This study investigates the effectiveness of Kahoot as a powerful tool in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among Vietnamese high school students. Using a mixedmethods approach, the research combines quantitative and qualitative data to assess the impact of this game-based learning tool. Sixty grade 11 students, divided into control and experimental groups, participated in pre- and post-assessments to measure vocabulary improvement. The experimental group, which used Kahoot in their lessons for two months, showed significant gains in vocabulary knowledge compared to the control group. The control group, using traditional methods, showed only modest improvements. Semi-structured interviews with students and teachers and classroom observations highlighted increased engagement, motivation, and participation due to Kahoot. The study suggests that gamified learning tools like Kahoot can make vocabulary learning more effective and enjoyable, offering valuable insights for integrating technology into educational practices. The findings advocate for adopting innovative technology-driven methods in language instruction to enhance learning outcomes and student engagement, with Kahoot as a convincing example of its potential.
