Using Short Dictations On Websites To Improve Efl Learners' Listening Skills At An Enghish Center​

Listening skill plays an indispensable role in communication or foreign language acquisition process. Thanks to the cutting edge of computer technology, techniques related to the technology with the aim of improving Listening skills have drawn much attention from teachers, educators and researchers. However, current research works fall short of insightful investigation into online websites. Therefore, the research was conducted to tackle that issue by using dictation technique through Listen& Write.com. The study adopted action research approach. The data were collected from a pretest-posttest design, a questionnaire, individual interviews with the participation of 16 students (Grade 10 and 11) at a certain English center and my journal during my teaching process. The results demonstrated that there was a close correlation between utilizing Listen&Write.com and performing listening skills, especially note-taking ability. After the intervention, learners gained higher marks in Listening tests and students gave positive responses to the techniques. Besides, the greatest hindrance teachers encountered is the time-consuming process of uploading audios; however, several difficulties were offered following solution.
