Using Short English Movies In Teaching The Listening Skill To EFL Secondary School Student​

Language learning today benefits greatly from advancements in technology and the use of appropriate learning media to engage students. Using short English movies to improve listening skills is a well-established method, but there has been little focus on students' specific difficulties, experiences, and the impact on secondary school students' listening abilities. This study uses qualitative methods and a quasiexperiment to explore these areas. It finds that while students encounter problems during listening activities, they can overcome them with various strategies. The use of short English movies is particularly effective for enhancing listening skills, providing exposure to authentic language, pronunciation, and vocabulary. In the classroom, students engage with these films by paying attention to the language used, learning proper pronunciation, and gaining useful expressions. They also write synopses, decipher valuable expressions, learn moral lessons, and present their findings. This study highlights the positive impact of short English movies on listening skills and provides insights into improving language learning through this medium.
