Using The Mnemonic Technique To Improve Elf 3rd Graders’ English Vocabulary Retention​

Mnemonic is one of the effective techniques to improve English vocabulary memorization for students, especially elementary school students. The goal of the project was to use the Mnemonic technique to improve the ability to remember English vocabulary of 3rd grade students. The project explores the current status, attitudes and perceptions of students towards the Mnemonic technique through surveys, and experiment to evaluate the impact of this technique on the ability to remember vocabulary, thereby providing solutions or recommendations. The author conducted an experiment with two classes, including class 3A (experimental class) and class 3B (control class) at Nghi Phong Primary School. In addition, the author also surveyed 45 students in two classes to collect data, observed the classroom and interviewed three teachers to better understand the teaching process and application of Mnemonic techniques. Before applying Mnemonic, students had many difficulties in memorizing English vocabulary with low scores. However, after applying this technique, students' scores improved significantly. They could remember vocabulary, understand the meaning of phrases and vocabulary better.
