According to an article posted on www.vietbao.vn on 9 December 2009, a large number of Vietnamese fresh graduates are complained about their limited English proficiency at workplace settings, especially their weaknesses in English communication despite their acceptable ability in their own specializations. This problem may stem from some deficiency in English teaching and learning at university and lower academic levels. Therefore, it is about time to take a closer look at the current use of teaching methods which are designed to develop students‟ speaking competence. For the last few years, communicative language teaching (CLT) has remarkably emerged as an innovative teaching approach to the teaching of second and foreign languages throughout the world. According to Nunan (1991), CLT features interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language.
